Mississauga and Brampton continue to grapple with vehicle thefts as 2025 concludes. Peel Regional Police reported over 4,700 incidents across both cities in the past year.

Car Theft Statistics: City Breakdown

From January 1 to December 21, 2025, Peel Regional Police recorded 4,722 vehicle thefts. Mississauga saw 2,838 incidents, while Brampton reported 1,867.

Nine incidents occurred in Toronto, two in Caledon, three in Oakville, one in Burlington, one in Markham, and one in Vaughn, all within Peel police jurisdiction.

Vehicle theft activity fluctuated throughout the year. July recorded the highest number of thefts.

Équité Association reports the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Dodge Ram 1500 are among the most stolen vehicles in Canada and Ontario.

Year-Over-Year Comparison

Vehicle thefts are lower this year compared to the same period in 2024. Between January 1 and December 7, 2024, 6,657 incidents were reported in Mississauga and Brampton.

Bryan Gast, national vice-president of investigative services at Équité Association, said greater public awareness and coordinated efforts by governments and law enforcement agencies drove a sharp drop in vehicle thefts during the first half of the year.
